Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Kimber Precast products different?

Kimber Precast is Idaho's exclusive manufacturer of Rosetta Hardscapes products, specializing in premium wet-cast concrete. Our products combine the authentic appearance of natural stone with superior durability engineered specifically for Idaho's climate. Every piece is manufactured locally in North Idaho using advanced wet-cast techniques that create denser, stronger, more weather-resistant products than traditional dry-cast alternatives.

What is wet-cast concrete and why does it matter?

Wet-cast concrete uses a higher water-to-cement ratio, creating a fluid mix similar to a milkshake that's poured into molds and cured in a temperature-controlled environment for up to 28 days. This process creates products with smooth, realistic textures and color throughout—not just on the surface.

Dry-Cast Products:

  • Machine-compressed in seconds with lower water content

  • Porous surface allows water and dirt to collect

  • Color coating can wear off over time

  • More prone to cracking in freeze-thaw cycles

Wet-Cast Products (Kimber Precast):

  • Hand-crafted, cured for hours to days

  • Dense, smooth finish resists moisture penetration

  • Integral color won't fade or chip away

  • Engineered for Idaho's temperature extremes

For Idaho's freeze-thaw cycles, wet-cast is the clear winner for durability and longevity.

Why choose precast concrete for landscaping?

Precast concrete offers significant advantages: consistent quality control from factory production, superior durability against weather and pests, faster installation since products arrive ready to use, design flexibility with various textures and colors, and long-term cost savings through minimal maintenance needs. Our products are strength-tested to ensure they'll perform for decades.

What about colored products?

Yes, many of our products are available in multiple color blends. We use integral coloring, meaning the pigment is mixed throughout the entire concrete—not just applied to the surface. This ensures that any future chips or wear won't reveal a different color underneath. Your product will maintain its appearance for years.

How do I choose the right retaining wall system?

Consider your project's specific needs. Small blocks from big-box stores are lightweight but may lean over time and require more installation labor. Large commercial blocks are extremely strong but require heavy machinery and lack flexibility for custom dimensions. Our Rosetta wall systems strike the ideal balance—strong wet-cast construction, manageable sizing that works with standard equipment, and the flexibility to create custom heights, curves, and corner configurations. Every installation includes proper base preparation and engineering for long-term stability.

What maintenance do Kimber Precast products require?

Minimal. Regular cleaning with water keeps products looking their best. Occasionally, deeper cleaning may be needed for oil or paint spills. The smooth, dense surface of wet-cast concrete resists dirt accumulation and makes cleaning easier than porous dry-cast products. We recommend periodic inspections to ensure drainage systems remain clear and products continue performing as designed.
